LANDSCAPE BY IAIN MCKELL, 1981
The fold-out colour poster was photographed by Iain McKell and styled by John Warwicker-Le Breton for New Sounds New Styles magazine no. 6, December 1981. The other side showed a nearly naked Spandau Ballet (cf ‘Paint Me Down’), which consequently attracted a little more attention.
The shadowy figure behind the blind is Barbie Wilde, a member of Shock (three of whom appeared in the video for ‘Einstein a Go-Go’).
New Sounds New Styles, edited by Kasper De Graaf with art direction by Malcolm Garrett, covered the ‘New Romantic’ clubbing scene with great enthusiasm and ran for thirteen issues until publisher EMAP* closed it in July 1982.
* John later worked for EMAP as an editor and production consultant when the company started to move its magazines (including LAN and Architectural Review) over to Apple Macintosh-based systems in the 1990s.
